Stupid Stick
So, the last two weeks have been a little crazy for me. First, I got the job at Haygood Preschool, which I am super excited about. I'll be working with 2yr olds two days a week and 3yr olds three days a week, from 8:30-12:30. Since that leaves me lots of extra time, I thought about getting another job, but instead I am going to be taking the GRE on October 20. awesome right? NO. It only gives me seven weeks to study, which I have found out is not enough time! Which brings me to the title of this post. In the last five days I have started studying for the GRE. I have gone through 14 of 50 word lists, and tried, TRIED to start on the math review. Yeah, that didn't go so well. I have literally already started to stress about this, because I feel like someone has beat me over and over again with a "stupid stick", because I have no idea how to do basic algebra and geometry anymore. I couldn't remember how to find the area of a triangle today. between that, sitting in hours of traffic over the last two days, and starting my new job tuesday, I feel like i can't do anything right. I haven't been able to follow a single conversation over the last two days. So what am i going to do about it? Play ultimate, and drink massive amounts of alcohol this weekend. Everyone I know says that's how to cure stress, right? Hopefully the stupid stick beating will wear off soon...

I believe... updated
So, when I was 16 I wrote something that I called "I Believe". It's just all the things that I believed in at that point, just takes on life. Six years later, almost to the day, these points still hold true, with a few things added to the end. It's funny how at 16 so many of my basic superstitutions, beliefs, whatever, were already part of me, when I hadn't really even been outside my "perfect" Cordova, suburbia USA world. Yet now, when I've finished high school, graduated from college, moved to a city where nothing was framiliar, these things still mean something. I've had my heart broken many , many times over the last six years, and I've been let down by friends more times than i can count. But despite all of that, I've kept cynicsm at arms length (with a few slips here and there), and these are still my basic beliefs on human nature. So here it is. "I Believe"...
I Believe.
I believe in God. I believe that life is a journey, with an ultimate destination. I believe in heaven and hell. I believe in predestination, and that we all determine our fate. I believe in faith. I believe that sometimes good things can come from bad situations and experiences. I believe in love at first sight. I believe that for every person on this earth, God made the perfect man/woman for us. Our soul mate. When we are born, we start our search for our soul mates. The lucky one's find their soul mates. I believe in life long friendships, and old ones that can be rekindled. I believe that new friendships are just as important as old ones. I believe that people don't have to change friends, if they understand that friends change. I believe in living life to the fullest. Life is an adventure. I believe that the happiest people are the one's that don't let life pass them and leave them behind. They don't let opportunities go without a second look. I believe in trying new things, and going out of your comfort zone. I believe in testing your personal limits, physically, and spiritually. I believe that material things WILL NOT MAKE YOU HAPPY, no matter what your friends and the rest of the world tell you. I believe in doing what you love and loving what you do. I believe that we all need to be true to ourselves. I believe that beauty is on the inside as well as the outside. You might have to dig a little more with some people than you will with others. You have to find the inner beauty and take the time to appreciate it. I believe that if a person is unhappy, they are doing something wrong in their life. Change something, fix something, make yourself happy. I believe that happiness comes from within. I believe that sometimes bad things do happen to good people, and the other way around. I believe in luck, and anything that has to do with luck. Every little bit helps. I believe in late night talks with strangers, and not having to talk at all with a life long friend, you know each other that well, and verbal communication isn't needed. I believe family is the most important possession a person can have, even if you aren't blood related. I believe that friends are the next most important possession a person can have, because they are the ones who see you through the hard times and the good times. I believe that a person’s life can be changed in a matter of seconds, or it can take a lifetime. I believe that God can descend on a place and everyone can feel His spirit, and all who felt it leave different than when they entered. What do you believe?
updated 8/14/2006:
I believe that sometimes you will get let down and your heart will get broken, over and over again. That the people that you want to be there won't be, and the people you never expected to be will. True friends are the ones that love you, quirks and all, no matter how crazy or clinically insane you may be at times. Every girl needs friends that are guys and can act like her brother's. And most importantly, one must realize that there are some things that you can never change, and some things that you have no control over. The only thing that you can do is let those things be as they are, and move on with life. Something better is always around the corner.
